Diary of a Fifth Grade Teacher

 Beginning of Week 4
Back to Full Blog

We have been very busy in class! The students have almost finished their language arts assessments and rotations will begin on the 21st of September. In class we have reviewed sequence of events and tools for understanding expository text. This is a very important standard and one we will be reviewing all year through our science and our social studies book.
Math is concluding the first chapter in Everyday Math. I have slowed down a little with the Keys to Algebra since we needed some review time for prime factorization. Please take every opportunity to have your child review their multiplication facts, that skill should be to automaticity.
In Social Studies we will have a map test on Thursday on the Western States and their capitals. The students played Jeopardy yesterday with the information we have learned so far, I think they surprised themselves with how much they know about latitude and longitude.
Last Friday we conducted a science experiment questioning whether or not there was space between water molecules. Ask your child if there is or not!
Thank you for all your support so far this year!
